(Even Advanced Artists have been surprised how just reviewing the ABCs can improve their drawing)
Description: If you have ever said "I can't draw" but inside the little voice said, But I wish I could… Then this class is for you. Even advanced artists have been surprised how just reviewing the ABCs can improve their drawing.

She cannot begin to tell you how many times she has heard "I Can't Draw". Her response - "Can you see? Can you sign your name? Whether it is right-handed or left, with your mouth or your toes….YOU can learn how to draw."

Learning to draw is like learning to read...you start with the ABCs. You may never draw like Michelangelo - but why would you? You want the confidence to draw like you.

This class will meet on five Thursday evenings to develop the ABCs of Drawing.

Before showing up at the first class, we ask that you draw these four items using a #2 pencil (one of the standard yellow ones) on a sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 white paper...
  1. Your hand
  2. A self-portrait (if that terrifies you, any person will do)
  3. A chair
  4. A house
These will be our base drawings, not to be looked at again until the end of our last class.
About the Instructor: Joyce Nelson Shellhart has taught art for 45 years, from pre-school to Senior Citizens. She has had great success with helping students develop their drawing skills. She learned early in her public high school teaching career that students want to first become comfortable with realistic drawing before attempting abstraction. She has also met many artists who expressed an interest in learning to improve their drawing skills.

Joyce was fortunate when another art teacher suggested DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN by Betty Edwards. Since then her own drawing improved, and has helped hundreds of students become amazed at their own skills in a short period time.
Weather Disruption: If weather disrupts our schedule we may use Zoom. If you don't have access to computer let us know and we will find a solution. The importance of these five classes is how each builds upon the other, so please try not to miss one.
